I hope everyone is staying as cool as possible. We have a few items that we’d like to bring to your attention so that you can mark your calendars!
Next Meeting July 25: We are doing to deviate from our normal format and instead of speakers, we will have a screening of the new HBO documentary on Bryan Stevenson called True Justice (the documentary is 1 hour and 41 minutes long). For dinner, we are asking members to sign up using our new online system (https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0A45ADAF2AAAF49-july1). We have 4 slots set aside for pizza so each person only needs to bring one or two pizzas.
Sunday July 28 – Visit to EJI Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace and Justice: Anyone who wishes to carpool/caravan should meet in the parking lot behind UMOM (Valley St near the intersection of Middle St, behind the Citgo) at 8:45AM for a 9AM departure. We are asking everyone to purchase their own tickets ahead of time (https://museumandmemorial.eji.org/visit#tickets). As the visit will include both the museum and memorial, folks should purchase a combo ticket for museum entry at 10:30 (the memorial ticket is not timed).
At the June meeting the idea for MPA to host a prison reform panel was discussed. We are currently in the early stages of trying to plan this event for October. If you have ideas or suggestions, email us!
Also, remember that you can check the MPA calendar for upcoming events at any time on our website: https://montevalloprogressivealliance.com/, or follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
